The full record of what the Journal has published, from the Metro Detroit agreement to the South Dallas nonprofit partnership.

How this page works

How the archive is organized

The archive is the full record of what the Journal has published, newest first. You can read straight down the list, filter by section, or search a keyword like "Cincinnati" or "90th anniversary" if you're looking for one specific story. Nothing here is sorted by importance, only by date.

Stories are filed by publication date and tagged with one of five sections: Business and Franchise, New Locations, Menu and Promotions, Community and Culture, or Economy. A single story can touch more than one section, which is why a Cincinnati development agreement might appear under Business while the first Ohio shop opening later shows up under New Locations. The tag reflects the main angle, not every fact in the piece.

Five sections. Each thread below reads in publication order, oldest to newest.

Nine entries from the 2026 run

Reading the archive in threads is faster than scrolling all nine entries.

Thread one

Reading the business and franchise thread

If you want the expansion story in order, start with the Metro Detroit agreement for 15 Michigan locations and the three-unit Cincinnati deal for Ohio. Then move to the Las Vegas agreement covering three shops, which was the brand's first Nevada entry, and the Stillwater, Oklahoma, three-shop deal with Dough Pokes LLC. Raleigh's two-unit agreement with Plexus Raleigh LLC rounds out the second-quarter 2026 disclosures. Read together, they show how the brand is filling in the map rather than clustering in one region.

The order matters more than it looks. Metro Detroit was the largest single commitment of the run, and each agreement after it answers a different question: which state is next, how many units, and who is putting money behind it. The Koelache group took Cincinnati, Dough Pokes took Stillwater, Plexus Raleigh took North Carolina. Different operators, different regions, one pattern.

Business and Franchise

Thread two

Reading the openings thread

The first-half 2026 market entries are the spine of the New Locations section: the first El Paso shop, then Bossier City and Vienna. The Harker Heights relocation is a different kind of story, a store moving from Knight's Way to the West Central Texas Expressway with an opening planned for December 1.

We keep both kinds in the same section because readers tracking "where is Shipley going" care about both new construction and relocations.

Relocations and new builds are filed together on purpose: for a reader tracking market coverage, both answer the same question about where the brand is going next.

Thread three

Reading the menu thread

Menu stories are dated by campaign window. The 90th-birthday campaign ran 10 weeks, from Aug. 10 to Oct. 18, and its items are now historical: the limited-time Birthday Bullseye donut, the 1936 Favorites Box, the returning Duo Deal, and the 90-cent glazed donuts offered for a limited period. The campaign ended with bonus loyalty points on purchases.

When a new promotion starts, it gets its own entry so the record stays readable. That means the menu thread is less a list of what you can buy today than a dated record of what the brand put in front of customers and when. Anything with a start and end date belongs here, including the loyalty bonus that closed the anniversary run.

Thread four

Reading the community thread

The South Dallas nonprofit franchise agreement is the anchor story here. It was the brand's first nonprofit franchise deal, planned for 2807 Al Lipscomb Way, with an opening target at the end of 2026 and described as part of a ground-up retail project.

Community coverage is thinner than franchise coverage by nature, because fewer of these stories generate public announcements. When they do, we publish them. That is why the thread is short and why the South Dallas entry carries more weight than its position in the list suggests.

Questions readers send us

Short answers to the things people ask most about how this archive is built and maintained.

Why does one story show up under two sections?

Because a single story can touch more than one. We tag the main angle, not every fact. A Cincinnati development agreement sits under Business and Franchise; the first Ohio shop opening later is its own entry under New Locations. Both are correct and both stay in the list.

Is the archive sorted by importance?

No, only by date, newest first. A three-unit deal and a first state entry sit wherever their publication date puts them. If you want the expansion story in order rather than by date, the threads above walk it that way.

Why doesn't an old plan get deleted when it changes?

Because a moving opening date is itself news. When a timeline shifts, we append the update and leave the original date visible. You can see what was announced, when it was announced, and what happened after.

Where do corrections go?

Email RenoGalvez@isaakblackwell.com with the story name and where you saw the difference. Our verification process is described on the Editorial Standards page, including what we check before adding or changing an entry.

Where to go from the archive

The archive is the broad view. If you already know which part of the Shipley Donuts story you want, the section pages carry the same reporting with more room to breathe, and the four newest entries are always on the front page.
