A short roundup of what the Journal has actually published, sent when there is enough new material to justify an issue.

No daily blasts. No filler. Unsubscribe from the link in any issue.

What is in each issue

Grouped by section, so you can read the parts you came for.

Leads the issue

The biggest development story

Every issue opens with the development that moved the most: a signed agreement, a new market, or a store that finally opened its doors.

Grouped by section

Franchise, menu, community

The rest of the stories follow with a short line each, filed under the sections you already know from the site: business and franchise, new locations, menu and promotions, community and culture.

Reported changes

When a date moves

If a planned opening date changed, or a deal that looked settled stalled, the digest notes it rather than quietly dropping the story.

Straight to the site

Click through for the full story

The digest mirrors what is on the site, so anything you want in more detail is one click away from the issue.

The full archive lives on the news page, where every issue's stories stay readable after the digest has gone out.

How often it arrives

There is no fixed schedule. The digest goes out when the news cycle produces enough to fill an issue. In a busy stretch — the second quarter of 2026 was one — that could mean several issues in a month. In a quiet period it means fewer, and sometimes none.

We would rather send nothing than pad an issue with repetition. If what you want is coverage the moment it publishes, bookmark the news archive instead; the digest is for readers who would rather catch up in batches.

If an issue ever looks thin, we hold it back instead of sending it

Subscribers get fewer emails than most lists promise, and each one reflects stories that were actually published rather than teased.

A plain printed sheet resting on a café table in soft noon light

The digest reads like a short printed roundup: stories, links, and a note wherever a date has moved.

Signing up and confirming

Enter your email below and submit the form. If a confirmation step is used, you will get a message asking you to verify the address before the first digest arrives. That step exists to stop someone else signing you up. Once confirmed, the next issue goes to that address.

We use your address to send the digest and nothing else. Our privacy policy covers the detail on what is collected and how long it is kept.

Who the digest is for

Readers tracking the brand's expansion, franchisees and operators watching the market, and anyone following a specific location. If you are in a market where a deal has been signed but no store has opened yet, the digest is a reasonable way to keep track without checking back weekly.

  • Expansion watchers Following where the brand puts down roots next
  • Franchisees and operators Watching agreement activity and market moves
  • Neighbourhood readers Keeping an eye on one particular store or town
  • Community organisers Tracking partnership and fundraising coverage

The digest will not tell you store hours or local promotions. Those come from the shop itself.

What the digest is not

Setting that expectation up front saves everyone a second email.

Not a promotional list

We do not send offers, coupons, or company marketing. The Journal is independent, and the digest carries its reporting, not a brand's campaigns. If what you want is company news and offers, follow the brand directly.

Not a franchise inquiry channel

Questions about owning a store, territory availability, or fees go to the brand, not to this list. If you want the Journal's coverage of franchise news, that is exactly what signing up delivers — and if you need to reach the newsroom about something else, use the contact page.

Not a same-day wire

It is a roundup, not an alert service. Stories reach the site as they are published; the digest collects them later and puts them in one place.

How the story copy is checked before it reaches you

Every digest line is built from a story that already went through the Journal's editing process. Agreements are reported from what the parties said on the record; openings are reported once the store is actually serving or the company has confirmed a date.

Where a number came from a filing, a press release, or a public statement, that is noted in the story itself. When something is still unconfirmed, the copy says so rather than filling the gap with a confident guess.

Questions before you subscribe

The short answers. If yours is not here, the newsroom answers email on weekdays.

What we do with your email address

We use it to send the digest and nothing else. We do not sell subscriber addresses or share them with third parties for marketing. The privacy policy spells out what is collected and how long it is kept.

Managing your subscription

Change your address or leave the list from the link in any issue. If a link does not work, email RenoGalvez@isaakblackwell.com from the subscribed address and we will sort it out. Subscription records are kept only as long as needed to run the list.

Will you see my address or reply to me?

No. The list sends from a no-reply address so replies are not lost in a mailbox nobody reads. If you want a person, use the contact page or write to the newsroom email above.

How long before the first issue lands?

Confirmation is immediate once you click the verification message. The first digest after that depends on the news. If nothing has happened worth sending, the first issue arrives whenever the next genuine batch of stories does.

Elsewhere on the site while you wait

The digest is one way in. If you would rather read than wait for an email, these are the pages that carry the coverage day to day.
