Newsroom inbox — tips, corrections and coverage questions, read Monday to Friday
Contact the Shipley Donuts Journal
Use this page to reach the Journal with a story tip, a correction, or a question about coverage. We read everything that comes in, though we can't reply to every message.
Email is the fastest route for tips and corrections, because it lets you attach links and documents.
The phone number below is for newsroom messages and is not a customer service line.

Letters reach the desk during working hours. Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
Counter handoffs and new storefronts are the most common tips that turn into a story.
Story tips
Tips are the most useful thing you can send. A new location under construction, a franchise agreement announced locally, or a promotion running in your area all qualify.
Include the location, what you saw or read, and any public record that backs it up. If you have a link to a permit, a local news item, or a company announcement, include it. We cover franchise expansion, new-market openings, product promotions and community initiatives around the country, so a tip that names a street, a shopping center, or a filing is far more useful than a general note about the brand. The more precise the address and the date, the faster we can check whether there is a story behind it.
A store that is not open yet
Construction plywood, an awning going up, a hiring notice in the window. Tell us the corner and roughly when you first saw the work start.
A deal announced somewhere small
A franchise agreement that a local paper or chamber of commerce covered, and that readers outside that town would not otherwise hear about.
A promotion running in your area
Anniversary pricing, a seasonal item, or a limited run that has not been announced widely. Tell us which shop, what the offer is, and how long it is supposed to last, so we can ask the right people about it. Anything you send stays between you and the desk unless you tell us otherwise.
Corrections
If a story has a factual error, tell us which detail
Send the story name and the specific detail that's wrong. Pointing to a source helps us verify quickly. Corrections are applied to the story along with a note explaining what changed, in line with our editorial standards. We do not quietly delete a line and move on — the note stays at the foot of the piece so readers can see what the earlier version said.
If you are writing about a number, give us the figure you believe is right and where it comes from: a filing, a news release, or a staff member who is willing to be quoted. That is usually all it takes to settle the question in a day.
Coverage questions
Partnership and coverage questions
For questions about how we cover a market, why a story was or wasn't published, or how our sections are organized, write to the same address. We cover one brand, so we don't take requests to cover other companies. We also don't accept payment for coverage or publish sponsored posts in the news sections.
What we can answer: how a section is organized, why a particular opening or franchise deal was reported the way it was, and how we decide which markets get a story first. What we can't answer is anything that belongs with the company rather than the desk — franchise applications, job openings, store hours, orders, or customer complaints. Those go to Shipley Donuts or to your local franchisee, and sending them here will delay you getting an actual answer.
Where to read first
Most coverage questions are already answered on the page. The archive holds every story in order, and the standards page explains how we source and label them.
What is off the desk
- Franchise applications and territory questions — those belong with the company, not the Journal.
- Job openings, hiring status and shift schedules.
- Store hours, orders, refunds and customer complaints.
- Requests to cover or promote another brand.

Response times
What happens after you write
Tips and corrections are reviewed as they arrive, usually within a few business days. Reporting a story takes longer than acknowledging a message, so don't assume silence means the tip was ignored. If a tip leads to a published story, we'll credit the source when they're willing to be named.
Can I send an anonymous tip?
Yes. Write from an address you don't mind sharing and tell us whether you want to be named. We can check a lead without quoting you, but a source we can go back to with a follow-up question is worth more than a note sent once.
Will you tell me before a story runs?
Usually not. If your tip turns into a story we may come back to confirm a detail or ask for a second source, but we don't share drafts or publication dates in advance. You can always ask us to leave your name out.
Can I send a photo or a document?
Yes — attach it to the email rather than describing it. Permit notices, lease filings and local news clippings are the kinds of records we can verify against. Tell us whether we may credit you if we use the material.
Do you take payment for coverage?
No. We don't accept payment for coverage and we don't publish sponsored posts in the news sections. If a story happens to mention a promotion, it is because the promotion is newsworthy in a market we already cover, not because anyone paid for the mention.
Can I ask about a franchise of my own?
Not through this desk. We're an independent blog covering the brand's news, not the company itself, so franchise applications, territory availability and onboarding questions all go through the operator. Sending them here will only slow you down.
Still unsure where a message belongs? Send it to the email address above and we'll point you at the right place.
